The Exotic Erotic Ball, a self-proclaimed "celebration of flesh, fetish and freedom" that was first held in San Francisco 31 years ago and has long been associated with the city - even after its move to the Cow Palace - is heading across the bay to Richmond. The move means that instead of having 20, people in lace, latex and body paint, organizers will be able to cram just 14, attendees into the Craneway Pavilion on the Richmond waterfront over two days. Of course, size isn't what matters, said Howard Mauskopf , the event's executive producer. It's the quality that counts. The event's contract in Richmond gives producers more control over concessions, ticketing and other matters, Mauskopf said. And being on the waterfront, in view of the San Francisco and Oakland skylines, is more thematically appropriate for the carnival of debauchery than the previous location, he said.

The Rise and Fall of the Exotic Erotic Ball (): SFist
A multiday confab of the sex industry culminating in a night of dancing and stage performances, Exotic Erotic is moving this year from the Cow Palace — where it took place from to and again last year — to a pavilion in Richmond. The real reason Exotic Erotic is parting ways with the state-run venue in Daly City isn't just a yearning to be closer to the Chevron refinery. According to event executive producer Howard Mauskopf, he and founder Mann chose to leave based largely on suspicions that massive ticket fraud took place at last year's ball. Mauskopf says there were an unusually large number of scalpers at least year's event. Many of the tickets they sold were counterfeit, he believes, since sample tickets bought by undercover security staff were recognized as legitimate by computer scanners.

The Exotic Erotic Ball is one of the only social occasions where it is appropriate to wear an inflatable sex doll as a fashion accessory. It's a place where most of the wardrobe malfunctions are planned. In fact, there are wardrobe malfunctions going on everywhere and things spilling and flopping out right and left.
The ball is celebrating its 30th year, and the event on Oct. The ball had been at the Cow Palace for six years in a row before it moved to the Oakland side of Treasure Island last year, Mauskopf said. Rumors that the Cow Palace was to be shuttered largely prompted the ball to change locations, he said. But Treasure Island offered limited access and parking, he said, and organizers turned their sights back to the Cow Palace. Previously, the ball had to go through the Cow Palace to work with that union.
